The Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) has announced the GameExpo Summit, a two-day business conference tailored for professionals in the gaming and esports industry. With over 700 attendees expected, including more than 100 industry thought leaders and government officials, the GameExpo Summit promises to be a premier event. It will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, fringe events, and networking sessions. The agenda will cover a wide range of topics, including AI, Web3, the metaverse, global and MENA trends, esports, publishing, and development.

In addition to the conference sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the Investor Connector matchmaking activity, facilitating meetings with investors from around the globe. Furthermore, the Publisher SpeedMatch will offer a curated networking opportunity to connect with publishers and explore potential partnerships.

The gaming industry has skyrocketed to unprecedented heights, solidifying its status as a global economic powerhouse. With over 2.9 billion gamers worldwide, it is estimated to generate a staggering $159.3 billion in revenue in 2020 alone, surpassing the film and music industries combined.

In recent years, the industry has experienced exponential growth, with annual revenue increasing at an impressive rate of 9.3%. This growth trajectory is expected to continue, reaching a projected revenue of $200 billion by 2023.

The rise of mobile gaming has been a significant driver of this expansion. Mobile games accounted for more than half of the global gaming market’s revenue, generating approximately $77.2 billion in 2020. As smartphones become increasingly advanced and affordable, the accessibility and popularity of mobile gaming continue to surge.

Esports, the competitive form of gaming, has also witnessed a remarkable surge in popularity and revenue. In 2020, the global esports market generated approximately $1.1 billion in revenue, with a global audience of over 495 million people. Esports events are now filling stadiums and attracting millions of viewers online, rivaling traditional sports in terms of viewership and engagement.

The gaming industry’s impact extends far beyond entertainment. It has become a driving force behind technological innovation. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies, initially popularized by gaming, have now found applications in various fields, including healthcare, architecture, and training simulations.

Furthermore, the gaming industry plays a crucial role in job creation and economic growth. Game development studios and esports organizations employ thousands of professionals worldwide, and ancillary industries such as streaming platforms and gaming accessories contribute to the sector’s robust ecosystem.

With its immense economic impact, technological innovation, and global reach, the gaming industry has become a force to be reckoned with. The GameExpo Summit serves as a testament to the industry’s significance, providing a platform for professionals to connect, collaborate, and shape the future of gaming in an ever-evolving landscape.
